xylophone

This activity was about making xylophone.

To make a home made xylophone you will need to fill 4 cups of water with different amounts. After you have get 4 pieces of paper and roll them into a tube and use tape to hold it. Lastly get a pencil and hit the glass and tube with it. The way it works is when you hit the cups of water it will cause vibrations the more water the less vibrations which makes a lower pitch.

I thought making a home made xylophone was fun.

Haiku

Today's activity was about writing a Haiku.

A Haiku is a short poem is usually around 3 sentences long. The first sentence of the poem had to be 5 syllables. A syllable is how many sounds a word makes for example summer has two syllables, summ and er. The second sentence had to be 7 syllables long. The third sentence had to be 5 syllables long.

I found this activity a little difficult because I don't know much about Haiku.

Which One Doesn't Belong?

Today's second activity was about figuring out which image doesn't belong.

First I watched a video to figure out what to do. There were boxes were we put our answer about which one doesn't belong and the reason why it doesn't belong. Some images were about emojis, cards, clocks and more. At the end there was a challenge the challenge was creating our own which one doesn't belong. My which one doesn't belong was about Nerf guns.

I always have fun doing activity's for the Summer Learning Journey.

Song Chorus

Today's first teaser was about finding a image.

The image had to connect to a lyrics. The lyrics had to be on the image so people know what lyrics it is. The l image I chose was three Rugby players holding one against their chest's. The lyrics I chose was “We Will Rise” By Mangere College.

I always have fun doing the Summer Learning Journey.

Arranging Words

Today's third activity was about arranging Maori words.

First I watched the video to see what to do. Then I arranged the scrambled words into a sentence on each side. There were also a question asking what you are going to do.

Today's third activity was a blast.

Illusions

Today's second activity was about creating illusions.

First I watched a video to see what I have to do. Then I searched for illusions the illusion I chose was the impossible oval.

I was happy with my results.

Summer Learning Journey

Today's first activity was about creating a kowhaiwhai pattern.

First we made a copy of a template which had a kowhaiwhai. Then we kept duplicating the kowhaiwhai to make our own kowhaiwhai pattern.

After we chose what colur the background was going to be. I chose red because I was trying to go for a accurate resemblance.

I enjoy completing teasers.

Insect Art

Today's second activity was about creating art using sticks, leaves ect.

The art was based on insects. I chose to create a butterfly because it was easy to make and simple. The materials I used to make my butterfly were leaves.

I always have fun completing activity's.

Summer Learning Journey | Fishy

I completed the first activity for day two.

This activity is based on a story about a man who lost his teeth while fishing.

First I watched a video to see what I have to do. Then I completed a template to help me get a better understanding of the story. Lastly I made a comic the comic had boxes where we put what we think the characters are saying.

I enjoy completing activity's for the Summer Learning Journey.

Summer Learning Journey

This week I have completed a activity for the Summer Learning Journey.

This activity was about commenting on someones blog. I have commented on Mayshars blog. The blog post that I have commented on was a chart about how many blog post they have completed each month. I have asked Mayshar how many blog posts she has completed in a year because the chart only shows how many blog posts she has completed on May, June, July, August, September and November.

Here is a link to Mayshars blog. Link.

I always have fun completing activity's for the Summer Learning Journey.

Summer Learning Journey

I completed the second activity for the Summer Learning Journey.

This week's activity was about Recording a video. The video was about a scavenger hunt for materials to build a catapult.

We looked for the materials in LS1. One person had to be the camera man and record every one in there group looking for materials.

If someone found an object that was on the material list they have to show it infront of the camera.

I thought that this activity was fun.

Inquiry | Presentation

We have presented our presentation for our emergency shelter so that we could get the contract.

First we introduced our company to our clients.

After introducing our company we explained why our shelter is the best. We also explained why we chose the materials for our shelter and why we chose the shape.

Lastly we were given our feedback from the clients of our presentation.

Our feedback was about how we did not explain about our poles that anchor our shelter into the ground. The second piece of feedback was about how we did not show our cardboard model. Our last piece of feedback was about our group not explaining how the Tsunami will slide over our shelter without tipping over our shelter. Next time I will try to give more details about our shelter so people can get a better understanding.

Comprehension Strategies

Comprehension strategies can help people learn or understand texts.

Predicting is used at the beginning of the story so people can guess what the story is about predicting also brings out prior knowledge.

Prior knowledge is used during a story to make connections.

Summarising is used to give a statement using the main points of the text to give as much information as possible.

There are many more Strategies people can use. For example you can use visualising during the story to find information that is not stated

Math Quizzes and Challenges

This week we recorded our results from the quiz's that our partner made.

They were two quizzes a 20 question quiz and a 15 question quiz. The first quiz was based on Addition, Subtraction and fact family's. I got 9 out of 20 answers correct.

The second quiz was based on fractions, time, money, statistics and geometry (shapes). For this quiz I got 8 out 15.

I think I can do better next time I do this quiz.

Filming

My writing groups started to film using Fotu's Narrative, story board, screen play.

First the actors practised their lines using the screen play then we used the story board to see we're the actors we're going to act.

Once the actors memorised their lines we started filming.

When the film was complete we used WeVideo to edit the film and Freesound.org to add sound affects.

I enjoyed filming but I found some scenes hard

Writing | Commanding Conversation

Commanding Conversation is a can do for writing.

I wrote two conversations on an image of three kids and two girls on motercycles.

My first conversation was about three kids playing a game of tag. My second conversation was about two girls complimenting each others moter cycles.

I think Commanding Conversations is a great way to improve use of punctuation.

LI- To write descriptive conversations

Touch Rugby

We practised passing and throwing again.

First we practised passing and throwing to get ready for a game of touch.

Next we played a game of touch. There were three teams one team relaxed while the other teams versed. Once the game finished one team swapped with the team relaxing. We kept on repeating this.

I learnt many useful skills in touch during the past few weeks.

Kapa Haka Performance

Today there was a Moari performance in the hall. The Kapa Haka group performed an entrance ceremony.

First the Kapa Haka group introduced what a poi is used for and how it helps with wrist movements. They also introduced their training tools and how it is used, The training tools help the Moari warriors train with their movements with the weapons.

Secondly the Kapa Haka group performed a haka and then Panmure Bridge school responded with a haka back.

Lastly each class went out to play a Maori Game. Our game was called Maui and Mato. How to play this game is get a Reiko and stand in a circle. If they Maui then you go left, if they say Mato then you go right

I liked the performance the kapa haka group did, especially the singing. I also like the game Maui and Mato.

Noval Study | Reading

The Witches is a fictional book created by the author Roald Dahl. This book is about a boy and his grandma trying to get rid of witches to try to stop children from dispersing.

Chapter 17 is about Luke and his grandma trying to give Bruno who is a mouse to his mum and dad.

Chapter 18 is about Luke's grandma trying to stall. She wants to give Luke as much time as he needs to sneak into the kitchen to pour formula 86 into the witches soup.

The last chapter is about Mr Jenkins talking to Luke 's grandma. He can't find Bruno and he's sure that he's with her grandson. He wants to know what's going on. Grandma confirms, once again, that Bruno is now a mouse after a little yelling from Mr Jenkins, Bruno finally pops his head out and speaks.

I enjoyed reading this book and I think its a great kids book.

Inquiry

Different types of shelters can keep people safe by using the correct materials depending on what disaster they are being protected from.

When building a shelter, measuring the amount of materials being used is important so it keeps it balanced.

An example of materials used for a tsunami shelter are concrete, chicken wire, metal ties, aluminum, popsicle sticks, steel door, and hard clear plastic.

Using chicken wire is good for putting in the concrete so it can connect it to the other sides.

Hard clear plastic can be used for the windows because it doesn’t break easily like glass and because it's transparent which allows people to see what's happening on the outside.

Popsicle sticks are good for supporting the force of the impact. This material can also be used to anchor the shelter into the ground so it doesn’t tip over. The properties of wood are the shape that has been made.

Not every material can support every natural disaster. Different types of shelters can keep people safe by using the correct materials depending on what disaster they are being protected from.

Inquiry | Model Materials

This week we have been thinking about different materials to build our shelter.

First we brainstormed materials and searched up materials that will help protect us from the weather.

Next we chose 4 materials that were best to protect against tsunami which were reinforced concrete, straight steel beam, stainless steel rods, and straight metal sheet.

Afterwards we decided on how big, small, long and wide our shelter will be.

Lastly we wrote how much materials we needed to make our shelter.

I really enjoyed researching different types of materials that protect against natural disasters.

Maths | Sharing Ideas

This week for maths we discussed with a partner who learnt something different what we have learned from the past two weeks I learnt addition and subtraction and time.

Addition and subtraction. My partner showed me use addition and subtraction in written algorithm. Written algorithm is a type of maths strategy that can used for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

During this session of learning, my partner showed me how to use place value while using addition and subtraction. To use the place value you will need to look at the value of each number in the equation and then you start by adding all the ones, then the tens then the hundreds.

What I learnt from my partner was how to tell time and I learnt there different periods of time.[

I loved teaching.

Inquiry | Shelter

This week our group has designed an emergency shelter that will protect against natural disasters.

First we looked at different shelters and the shape of the shelter. We had to figure out if it was a good or a bad shelter in different conditions.

Next we thought of a shape for our shelter which was a pyramid, and a cube. The reason why we chose these shapes was because if the wind was coming into the corner the wind would split into different directions. If the wind blows to a direction to the wall it will slide up that might make a vacuum.

Then we created a shelter using the app Sketchup.

The materials that might be used to create our shelter were bricks, and stones. Bricks and stones are different types of bricks that are both heavy materials that can not be pushed by strong wind.
If we changed things of the shelter it would be adding windows on each side so we know what's happening outside.

During this activity we found thinking of the shape hard but we found this fun because we were able to create a shelter.

LI.to digitally model an emergency shelter.

Maths | 2D and 3D Shapes

2D shapes are flat shapes that have faces and corners such as squares, circle, triangles. 3D shapes are shapes that have many faces, vertics and edges. Vertics are when edges and sides meet. Edges are lines that help form a side.

The relationship 2D and 3D shapes are basically the same but 2D shapes have less faces and less dimensions.

Reflection is flipping the shape the opposite way depending on where the shape will be put. Rotation is turning the shape so you can get another image of shape.

Inquiry | Insulators

Insulators are materials that don't let heat escape. My group tested different materials to see which material was the best at insulation, having a lower number for average cooling rate means the material is good at insulation.

The best insulator for keeping it cool were plastic paper and polystyrene and the worst insulators for keeping it cool were glass and tin.

The best insulators for keeping it warm were glass and polystyrene and the worst insulators were tin, paper and plastic.

The best insulator for keeping it cool and keeping it warm was polystyrene.

Touch Rugby

Today we learned some basic skills for touch rugby.

First we learnt how to tap the ball, catch and pass the ball.

Afterwards we played passing drills to get better at committing to the ball and catching.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt the rules and skills of touch rugby.

Kiwi Sport

This week for kiwi sport we learnt some basic touch skills.

First we learnt how to catch then we threw the ball in the air while moving. After we did the drill the drill was throwing the ball up and catching it then moving the ball around our head, around our hips and under our legs.

Then we learnt how to pass. When passing you need to pass to someone you is behind you because if you pass to someone who's in front of you its a forward pass.

lastly we played a game the game was about putting the balls in the correct hoop.

I had fun learning these skills.

Inquiry

This week for Inquiry we experimented with different materials to find which material is the most absorbent and to learn how to conduct a precise experiment.

The material we used were, stone, sand, paper towels, nappies and cotton. Then we used a measuring cylinder to measure 100ml of water, then we added 5 drops of blue food colouring. After we used a scale to measure 50g of each materiel.

Next we got a tray and placed the material we chose, in it. After, we poured the 100ml of water onto the material and then poured all the water that was not absorbed back into the measuring beaker to see how much water the material absorbed.

I enjoyed this experiment and learned that nappies are very absorbent.

Writing | Kids Voting

This week for writing we wrote a recount about our daily routine. We could pick a day that we wanted to write about. I wrote about last Saturday.

The four daily routines are before school, at school, after school and after dinner.

Before school mean what you did before school for example brush teeth, wash face and hands.

At school means something you did at school for example play handball, work.

After school means something you did after school for example get changed, ride bike.

After dinner means something you did after dinner for example brush teeth, go to sleep.

L.I. Write a recount of your day.

Reading | Governing topics

Governing topics are things that parties want to put into action when they have the power to do so.

The two most important governing topics for me are Education and Health.

Education is how the government should spend more money on schools.

Health is about keeping people safe and healthy and providing more money to stop the pandemic.

I chose these governing topics because I am still in school and want to learn new things and because I don't want to get sick.

LI: to choose important governing topics by summarising all topics.

Maths | Basketball activity

Rounding is a strategy for maths that uses division and addition we used rounding on a physical activity. The activity was dribbling a basketball 50 times and repeat it 5 times.

Rounding means to circle the number to the nearest ten.

There are two ways to round numbers up and down the numbers that you have round down are 1, 2, 3, 4,  the numbers that you have to round up are 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Divide means to share something equally for example 6 divided by 2 is 3 because 3+3 =6.

Addition means to add up numbers for example 5+5 equals 10 I know because if i put up five fingers and another five fingers that equals ten.

Rounding can help people understand different equations.

LI: to investigate units of time.

Writing | Rewrite

This week for writing we rewrote different scenes from a book called the Gruffalo.

There were three questions that helped me change the scenes. They were, whats the Gruffalo's favourite food, where do they live, who is the character. I changed owl into a raptor, the raptor lives in a tall log house and the Gruffalo's favourite food is raptor cupcake.

LI: to rewrite a narrative.

Reading | Making connections

There are 3 types of connections, text to self, text to text and text to world.

Text to self is something that happened in the book that also happend to you.

Text to text means something that happened in the book that is similar to another book.

Text to world means something that can happen in the world.

Making connections can help people understand texts better than not making connections.

Reading | Character Trait and fact or opinion

This week for reading, we are learning about fact or opinion and character traits.

For fact or opinion we wrote a fact of what happened in the story for each character in the Gruffalo. Then thought of a opinion of what we thought of the character and wrote that down.

For character trait we used the adjectives we came up with and came up with inferences.

This activity helped me get a better understanding of the book.

LI: To infer.

Writing | Setting Description

A setting is the environment in a story. It can include what it smells, sounds, feels, and looks like

When describing what a pace looks like, it needs to include adjectives such as dirty, Clean, Fresh etc.

When describing what a place sounds like, it also needs to include adjectives like quiet, loud, and etc.

To describe what a place smells like it needs to include adjectives as rotten, clean, and etc.

To describe what a place feels like it needs to include adjectives as Rough, bumpy, uneven, etc.

This strategy can help people people get a picture inside the readers head as they connect with the four senses.

LI-To write a setting description

Inquiry | Low, Likely, Possible, Elevated and Extreme

This week we learnt about risks.

We rated situations on low risk, likely risk, possible risk, evaluated risk, and extreme risk. Low is In most cases are risks that can be avoided by common sense. Likely in most cases can be avoided by common sense with application of skill. Possible are Risks that are contained by application of safety procedures. Evaluated is something that safety procedures only limit some danger. Extreme is something that out number the safety procedures and danger that is about to happen.

Later we wrote our own situations that match each risk level.

Low, Likely, possible, evaluated, and extreme, all describe different levels of risk.

Time | Mean, Median and Mode | ping pong activity

Mean adds all the numbers up and divides it by the amount of numbers. For example: 1+2+3+4+5= 15, 15 ÷ 5 = 3, the mean is 3.

Median organizes the numbers from least to greatest and selects the number in the middle. If there are more than one middle number, add them and divide by 2. For example: 10=1+2+3+4+10= 30, 30 ÷ 5 = 6, the mean is 6.

Mode organizes the numbers from least to greatest and determines the most popular number (the number that appears the most). For example 3 3 4 5. The most popular number is 3.

This investigation shows how long it takes for a person to complete a physical activity. Once the person has completed the activity, they convert their time, find their mean, median and mode. The graph below shows the fastest and the slowest time taken to complete the activity.

Hazards and risks

My group and I did inquiry this week, for this task we found some hazards for example - Swimming pool, coffee, sanitiser, etc.

We had to find risks to match our hazards, risk and hazards have something slightly different about each other.

First, we founded hazards for school, community, home, and sport.

Then, we explained each hazard using a risk, the risk should be about the hazard.

Later we moved onto each category.

Hazards are a type of risk, or something dangerous, it can also be a method that can be hard to do.

A risk is a situation involving danger, it can be something harmful.

Risk and hazards are really important.

LI - to demonstrate prior knowledge.

Character description

A character description tries to create an image by a character's appearance, personality and experience.

When describing the appearance it needs to inc operate the face, hair, clothes, body and useful words/phrases.When describing the personality it need to inc operate what kind of person is the character, what do the character say, how does the character behave and what makes the character interesting or different. When describing the experience it needs to inc operate where do the character live, who are the character's friends or family, do the character have any hobbies, talents, and more, do the character have any achievements or secret.

A character description uses both figurative and literal language.

Figurative language is unlocking the hidden messages that are in a sentence.
Literal language is a direct point and no hidden messages to unlock.

The purpose of this activity is write a character description so that people can describe all the areas of a character.

Reading | Visualising

Visualising is a strategy were you imagine a picture of something.

The Gruffalo activity is about a mouse tricking three animals by making up an animal called the gruffalo and giving descriptions of its appearance people can get an idea of what it looks like but later find out the Gruffalo is real.

For the nogard activity we were given description of the appearance so we could get idea of what it looks like. A nogard a nogard is dragon spelt backwards.

Visualising can help a person get a better idea of what something looks like.

LI. to compare products using reciprocal reading.

Writing | Hyperbole's and personification

Today for writing we learnt about hyperbole and personification.

For the first task my group looked for hyperbole to describe two pictures.

For the second task my group looked for personification to describe two pictures.

The pictures that we described using hyperbole was a picture of a train and a water fall, the pictures that we described with personification are a picture of a plane and a castle.

Here are some examples the plane crept in the shadows.

This activity was really fun to do.

LI: to use hyperbole and personification to narrate events

Food Preservation T-chart

Food containers are used to store food but have different requirements.

Stainless Steel Gastronorm Pans.
The stainless steel gastronorm pans is a stainless steel container. The pros are they can be used in buffet restaurants it also has a lip to store it in an oven they are suitable for ovens use, freezer use, suitable for serving hot foods, their hygienic and durable the cons are that they are to deep for for fridge storage.

Mason jars.
Mason jars are a glass container. The pros are they can keep food at room temperature, they are air tight, easy to sterilize, suitable for small places the cons of the mason jar are they are fragile, not suitable for fridge use and it's not able to store a lot of food.

Plastic pans.
This plastic pan is tall square container. The pros are they can withstand heat ranging from a hundred degrees they are really durable, suitable for fridge use and dish washing safe the cons are they are not their suitable for oven use or microwave use.

These three containers are best for three different things. For example the Mason jars are the best for keeping things at room temperature, the Plastic pans are the best for storing leftovers in the fridge because they have lids and there stackable and the steel pans are the best for storing food in buffet restaurants because it keeps the food warm and it's able to store a lot of food.

T Chart | Reciprocal Reading

this week we found pros and cons of food storage containers by using t-charts and the reciprocal reading process.

First my group and I chose a container to read about. We read the text and summarised the information to get an idea of what the container was used for.

After reading the text we found the pros and cons of the container using a t-chart. Then we used the images to find the cons.

Then we repeated the same process for the next two texts.

This is a W.I.P work in progress this will be finished next week.

Metaphors

Metaphors compare two things with similar quality's.

For example the man's stomach is a bottomless pit.
The main object is the man.
The comparison is the bottomless hole the meaning is that the man eats a lot.

Another example is the boy has a heart of a lion.
The main object is the boy.
The comparison is the heart the meaning is that the boy is brave.

Metaphors can describe many things like weather, flavors, voices and many more.

Reading | SSR selfie

This week for SSR selfie I read a book called Nature's Deadliest Creatures.

I like this book because it is full of interesting facts. For example did you know that one drop of the inland taipan's venom is enough to kill 100 humans.

 I enjoyed reading this book.

Venn Diagram | Space food | Dippy Dinner Drippers

The differences and similarities in texts can be found by using a Venn Diagram.

Dippy Dinner Drippers are about a family that are messy eaters and space food where kids try to preserve food in space.

The differences of the two texts are that Space Food gives real facts and talks about micro organisms and Dippy Dinner Drippers talks about how they are messy eaters and the different food combinations they eat.

The similarities are that they are both fiction, both text are narratives, and both texts are food related.

Swimming | Kiwi Sport

Today I practised my water safety skills at the Lagoon Pools.

The first skill I practised was gliding, To glide we swam face down and kicked.

Then I practised rotation kicking, To do a rotation kick we swam on our front and kicked then rolled so our body faces up and kept on kicking.

Lastly I practised diving we swam then duck dove to pick an object of the floor.

L.I to develop knowledge of water safety.

Writing | Similes

Similes compare two things using, like or as...as.

When similes have an adjective in them people use "as...as".
For example, "the man's muscles are as hard as nails."

When smiles have a verb in them people use "like."
For example, "Mike ran like the wind."

Similes help people describe two different things.

Swimming | kiwi Sport

Today for Kiwi Sport we are learning about water safety. Our coach name is James

I learnt how to enter the pool safely.

Then we swam from front to back.

After we swam face down and rolled so face can face up.

I enjoyed swimming at the pools.

Writing | Punctuation

This week for writing we learning about punctuation.

First we completed a task were we found out the meaning of different punctuation's.

After we moved on to a different task we we used all eleven punctuation's in sentences we also crossed the punctuation we already used.

  • Capital letter
  • full stop
  • Exclamation mark
  • Question mark
  • Apostrophe
  • Quotation mark
  • Brackets
  • Colon
  • Semicolon
  • Slash

Maths | Solving Strategy's

This week for maths we tried to solve equations using different strategy's.

Some strategy' s my group used are splitting numbers, numberline and counting back words.

To split numbers you need to start with the biggest number first example - 40 - 25, and then you count down until you get the answer.

The number line is were you add a number and keep on adding numbers until you get the correct answer.

Counting backwards is were you take away numbers until you find the answer.

L.I To a recount of what we learnt for maths.

Reading | Explain that idiom

Idioms are a group of words that aren't meant to be taken literally. My group completed a task witch was about explaining three different idioms. My group chose call it a day, by the skin of your teeth and in hot water.

First we explained call it a day witch means time to stop then we wrote script and the meaning then we filmed the video.

We repeated the same thing but with by the skin of your teeth, this idiom took the longest amount of time because my group kept on laughing when trying to act the scenes out by the skin of your teeth means barely making it.

The last idiom that my group acted out is in hot water witch means to be in trouble.

I enjoyed this activity.

Tangrams

Today I learnt how to make tangrams. I rearranged the pieces to make animal shapes.

First I made a square piece of paper because tangrams are made from a big square. Then  I folded the square into varies shapes and cut them out.

Lastly, I tried to make different animals shapes from the tangrams pieces.

Inferring

Inferring

Inferring is a type reading strategy were people use prior knowledge and clues to figure something out that is hidden or not shown on the page.

For example someone can use their prior knowledge and figure out that chameleon is hunting because they might know that chameleons shoot their tongue to catch their prey.

Inferring is a good strategy when it come to guessing what is happening in a image.

LI: To infer information that is not written in a text.

Maths | Volume and Capacity

Our standard form of measuring capacity are litres and millilitres. Volume means how much space an object has and capacity is how much liquid an object can fit.

Estimating is taking a guess of the amount of something. When estimating volume look at the object and try guess the height, width and the length after that multiply by a 1000. To measure capacity of something use millilitres of litres.

LI: To explore stranded forms of Volume and Capacity

Geometric Art

For art we are making geometric art using masking technique. Geometric means simple shapes and curves and masking means to cover or hide something.

First we practised of sectioning digitally so we can get a felling of what it is going to be like.

Then we moved on to our real copy. First we covered the frame with masking tape. Then we started to section of big than section of smaller piece's with masking tape.

Next we coloured our art with pastel we moved a pastel in one direction to get a good look.

I really enjoyed doing this activity and I think my art looks good.

LI: to create geometric art by using masking technique.

Reading | Predictions

This week made predictions about a book called Happy New Year. Predicting is taking a guess about what will happen using clues.

One of the predictions made was i predict that the family would make a fire. I was incorrect the island that they were on had a fire ban policy.

Another prediction of mine was that the family would go explore the island That was also incorrect the family were swimming at the beach.

Predicting helped me understand the book more.

LI: to predict the events to come.

Light and Sound Vocabulary

Light is a energy that make things visible. Sound are waves that can be heard.

First we had to match words from a list with the definitions. We could use a dictionary to help us.

Next we did the Draw, Act, Animate, Find.

My group did echo for draw we drew a face and a wall and the face had a speech bubble that said hello we also drew the sound waves hitting the wall and bouncing back.

LI: to learn the vocabulary of light and sound.

Verbs

There are three types of verbs. Physical verbs, mental verbs, and state of being verbs.

Physical verbs are action word describing a physical movement for example run, walk, sit and climb.

A mental verb is used to describe thinking words like wonder, dream, remember.

There is only one type of state of being verb "be" but there are many versions of it.

Verbs help describe specific actions.

Properties of Light

Light makes things more visible to the human eye.

One property of light is: light can't be seen through opaque objects. This is proven because when the flashlight was covered by an opaque object the light didn't go through the opaque object.

Another property of light is that light can be reflected. This is proven because when the light shined towards the mirror the light bounced of the mirror.

Light can create a rainbow because the prism separates all of the light's colours. This is proven because when the flashlight shined on the prism it created a rainbow.

There are many more property's property of light check this Google Document for more information.

LI: To observe the properties of light

Weight | Measuring

Weight is how heavy an object is. Our standard forms of weight are grams (g), kilograms (kg) and tonnes (t). Most people use a scale or a balance scale to measure the weight of something.

Estimating is when people take a guess using their prior knowledge.

Converting is changing a form of something. To convert grams to kilograms people divide by one thousand and then divide one more thousand to convert to tonnes.

LI: To explore standard forms of weight

Plurals

Plurals are more than one thing. Most plurals have rules to them.

One of the rules are that if a noun ends with a 'y' but has a vowel (a,e,i,o,u) before the 'y' then people often use an 's' for example boy boys.

Another rule is that if a noun ends with an 'o' people often use 'es'. For example: mosquito, mosquitoes. There are some exceptions to this rule. For example: photo, photos.

Plurals have many more rules and exceptions to them.

LI: To describe objects using specific and interesting nouns and adjectives.

Art

For art we were making a story using aboriginal art. Aboriginal art tells a story from the aboriginal's beliefs witch is called Dreamtime stories.

We first practised the aboriginal symbols. The different types of symbols are: footprints, stars, travelling signs, boomerang, water hole, rivers and more.

The story I was trying to tell was about a fish and a turtle swimming and working together to escape a shark.

I enjoyed telling my story with aboriginal art and learned new things about the aboriginal culture.

LI: To create art that tells a story using traditional methods.

Measurement length | Maths

Length is how long an object is. Our standard measurement are millimetres (mm) centimeters (cm) meters (M) and kilometres (km) . There are many different tools people can use to measure things in standard form, like: rulers meter rulers and measuring tapes.

Estimating is an educated guess on the amount of something. After someone estimates, they measure the objects to find out the real measurement.

To convert centimeters to millimetres multiply the number by 10 to convert centimeters to meters divide by 100.

LI. To explore standard forms of length.

Thursday 28 May 2020

Properties of sound

Sound is a noise that travels into a persons ears. Property is something that belongs to a thing or a person.

One property of sound is that it sound gets weaker. This is proven because Mr Wong clapped on one side of the class room and the meter on the other side of the class room recorded a smaller amount of sound.

Another property of sound is that it sound travels the same in every direction. This is because Mr Wong clapped one meter in front, one meter back, one meter to the left and one meter above and the results were all the same.

The last property of sound is that sound can travel around corners. This is proven to be correct because Mr Wong went behind a wall and clapped and the meter picked up the sound.

LI: To observe the properties of sound.

Adjectives

There are three types of adjectives absolute adjective, a comparative adjective, and superlative adjective.

An absolute adjective describes something alone, for example a hungry wolf.comparative adjective describes something being compared with something, else here is an example the hungrier wolf. A superlative adjective describes something on the highest level, for example: the hungriest wolf.

The different types of adjectives can help with a person's describing.

South Pacific Beats| Reading

The Pato is a modern electric drum inspired by the lali. Rachael Hall the creator of the Pato made the Pato in her finale year at Massey university. To connect back to her tongan heritage and to modernise the lali.

Rachael Hall created many different models of the Pato. Rachael hall used some tools called the lathe and the milling machine. Rachael Hall also made some features that other drums did not have, like a pitch adjuster, a microphone, and volume dial.

LI. To read, understand and recall the article.

I took a test to test my understanding of the article I got 10 out of 27.

Noun Proper noun and Pronoun

There are three different types of nouns, nouns, proper nouns, and pronouns.

A noun is a word given to a common object.

A proper noun is a word given to a unique object.

A pronoun is a general word given to a object, person, or an group of objects.

Nouns can help with a person's vocabulary.

Narration | Reported Speech

Narration is telling people what is happening in a situation. Reported speech is telling what someone else has said. To narrate use third person (people's name, he, she, they and ect), because when a situation is narrated, it is written as if the author is telling a person who is not there about what they are seeing.

First write the person's name, after that write a speech word, like: said, shouted, growled, assured and ect.

Next write what the person is saying but without speech marks. Make sure to change all the first and second person words to third person words (example: Micheal confessed to his friend, that he was scared of sheep).

Finally, finish the sentence with a full stop '.' .

Narration is a good way to tell stories.

LI: To narrate a scene using reported speech.

Patterns & Timetables

Patterns are repeated designs and timetables are multiplying digits in order to get an answer.

The pattern in the grid shows the six timetable pattern. The number order of the pattern is 6, 3 9. This is because: 6 x 1 = 6, 6 x 2 = 12, but 1 + 2 = 3, 6 x 3 = 9, 6 x 4 = 24, but 2 + 4 = 6 and etc.

If a shape doesn't connect back to the start, it is not a pattern.

Patterns are a good way of remembering the timetables.

Skim Reading Summary| Reading

The Patō is a modern electric drum. The Patō is similar to the traditional lali.

In Racheal Hall's last year of university she wanted to make an instrument that sounded similar to the traditional lali in order to connect back to her tongan heritage.

Racheal Hall started to draw her plans and came up with many models of the drum and picked the Patō.

Racheal Hall is currently trying to make more Patō on a daily schedule.

“Conversations” Direct Speech| Writing

Direct speech is exactly what a person has said. A conversation is more than one person speaking.

Open the speaker's line with one speech mark. After that write what one character is saying, then add a punctuation. After that close the line by using another speech mark.

Next write who is talking with a speech word like: 'questioned', 'growled', 'yelled', 'asked' and etc.

Remember to create another line for each speaker, so the reader know's who is talking.

LI: To write conversations.

Buffed Vocabulary| Reading

Vocabulary is a body of words used in a particular category. A category of words can be used for a topic or a language.

My group and I had to read the article 'South Pacific Beats'. To find two words that we did not understand.

We also wrote what we thought the meaning of the two words were. Then we had to find a kids dictionary definition then we pasted the link of the kids dictionary with the definition.
