Writing | Hyperbole's and personification

Today for writing we learnt about hyperbole and personification.

For the first task my group looked for hyperbole to describe two pictures.

For the second task my group looked for personification to describe two pictures.

The pictures that we described using hyperbole was a picture of a train and a water fall, the pictures that we described with personification are a picture of a plane and a castle.

Here are some examples the plane crept in the shadows.

This activity was really fun to do.

Food Preservation T-chart

Food containers are used to store food but have different requirements.

Stainless Steel Gastronorm Pans.
The stainless steel gastronorm pans is a stainless steel container. The pros are they can be used in buffet restaurants it also has a lip to store it in an oven they are suitable for ovens use, freezer use, suitable for serving hot foods, their hygienic and durable the cons are that they are to deep for for fridge storage.

Mason jars.
Mason jars are a glass container. The pros are they can keep food at room temperature, they are air tight, easy to sterilize, suitable for small places the cons of the mason jar are they are fragile, not suitable for fridge use and it's not able to store a lot of food.

Plastic pans.
This plastic pan is tall square container. The pros are they can withstand heat ranging from a hundred degrees they are really durable, suitable for fridge use and dish washing safe the cons are they are not their suitable for oven use or microwave use.

These three containers are best for three different things. For example the Mason jars are the best for keeping things at room temperature, the Plastic pans are the best for storing leftovers in the fridge because they have lids and there stackable and the steel pans are the best for storing food in buffet restaurants because it keeps the food warm and it's able to store a lot of food.

T Chart | Reciprocal Reading

this week we found pros and cons of food storage containers by using t-charts and the reciprocal reading process.

First my group and I chose a container to read about. We read the text and summarised the information to get an idea of what the container was used for.

After reading the text we found the pros and cons of the container using a t-chart. Then we used the images to find the cons.

Then we repeated the same process for the next two texts.

This is a W.I.P work in progress this will be finished next week.

Metaphors

Metaphors compare two things with similar quality's.

For example the man's stomach is a bottomless pit.
The main object is the man.
The comparison is the bottomless hole the meaning is that the man eats a lot.

Another example is the boy has a heart of a lion.
The main object is the boy.
The comparison is the heart the meaning is that the boy is brave.

Metaphors can describe many things like weather, flavors, voices and many more.

Reading | SSR selfie

This week for SSR selfie I read a book called Nature's Deadliest Creatures.

I like this book because it is full of interesting facts. For example did you know that one drop of the inland taipan's venom is enough to kill 100 humans.

 I enjoyed reading this book.

Venn Diagram | Space food | Dippy Dinner Drippers

The differences and similarities in texts can be found by using a Venn Diagram.

Dippy Dinner Drippers are about a family that are messy eaters and space food where kids try to preserve food in space.

The differences of the two texts are that Space Food gives real facts and talks about micro organisms and Dippy Dinner Drippers talks about how they are messy eaters and the different food combinations they eat.

The similarities are that they are both fiction, both text are narratives, and both texts are food related.

Swimming | Kiwi Sport

Today I practised my water safety skills at the Lagoon Pools.

The first skill I practised was gliding, To glide we swam face down and kicked.

Then I practised rotation kicking, To do a rotation kick we swam on our front and kicked then rolled so our body faces up and kept on kicking.

Lastly I practised diving we swam then duck dove to pick an object of the floor.

L.I to develop knowledge of water safety.

Writing | Similes

Similes compare two things using, like or as...as.

When similes have an adjective in them people use "as...as".
For example, "the man's muscles are as hard as nails."

When smiles have a verb in them people use "like."
For example, "Mike ran like the wind."

Similes help people describe two different things.
