AFL Training

Today we went to practise AFL with our coache Andre.

We kept practising the skills we learnt from last session but we also learnt new skills like a Tackle and a Ruck.

We first practised the basic skills like kicking and passing.

Then we were taught how to tackle and a ruck.

An AFL tackle is where you wrap your arms around a player bweteen there hips and there shoulders and try to bring them to the ground. But we tackled each other on our knees because this is the first time we practised a tackle.

A ruck is where one person throws the ball in the air and 2 players from diffrent teams have to try and hit the ball down a ruck is also used in Basket Ball.

I need to work on my kicking because when we played bomb the teachers I missed all my attempts.

Place Value and saying Numbers

Place Value is a system that groups numbers based on there size.

The postion of a digit determins its value. When we say numbers we group them with in the same house. For example 15, 709 has Fifften thousands, Seven hundreds and Nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce big numbers properly. It also qllows us to identify numbers before and after.

LI: to read numbers larger than 999.

Moon Ball | Team work

We played a game of Moon Ball to help with our teamwork.

First we talked as a group about what teamwork is. Our answers were collaborating, listening to each other, respect etc.

Then we had an activity where we had to make the ball move with out touching the ball. We all tried blowing at the ball from one side but we couldn't move it. It turns out we could of used other things like a jumper to create enogh air to move the ball.

The last activity was one person in each team had to put on a blind fold and the person with the blind fold on had to hit the ball once. This activity was the hardest out of all of them.

This game of Moon Ball helped improve with our teamwork but sometiomes it made our group stressed.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greetings.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata whaenua (local inhabitants). The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place.

The Maunga (mountain), awa (river) and the (iwi) Tribe are generally used. Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku tipuna (ancestral place) and where you live is importent for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitors that is being welcomed. It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the two groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visitwill ensure a long lasting relationship and connections.

Next we played a game of octopus but instead of tagging someone you had to hit them with the ball by passing.

Lastly we played a game called bomb the teachers. To play bomb the teachers you have to kick the ball and try to hit one of the teachers or the coache.
