Direct and Reported Speech|writing

Direct speech is exactly what someone has said. Reported speech is telling what someone else has said.

Direct speech uses speech marks.

Reported speech is what someone else has said.

If someone understands the differences between direct and reported speech they will know if someone is talking or if someone is telling what someone else has said.
