Maori

We revised all the things we learnt during the past term. 

First we played a game were we had to try and memorise the cards. We also had to say the words that matched the picture on the card.

Then I answered some questions in Maori. I used the Maori dictionary to help me. One of the questions were: ko wai to hoa? Which means who is your friend. 

This task was a bit difficult because I had to use the Maori Dictionary.

Maori | Questions

I continued translating questions and answers in Maori.

First, we revised the questions. "Kei hea te aporo? Kei roto i te peke."

After we copied and pasted the questions from our google doc to our google slide and then added the pictures that we made next to the questions.

This activity was a little hard because the pictures were a little hard to draw.

Questions

We learnt a variety of different sentences in Maori.

First I looked at the sentences and where the fruit were placed like in a bag.

Next I wrote sentences using runga, raro and roto. For example Kei hea te panana? Kei roto i te pouaka makariri is where is the banana the  it is in the fridge.

I need to practise because I kept on getting stuck.

Māori | Preposition

I learnt about preposition.

The first preposition I used was tenei for a picture next to me. 

The next preposition I used was tena for a picture that was in front of someone else. 

The last preposition I used was far away from me was tera.

I enjoyed this activity because I can use some of these preposition like can you get me a bag of chips from tera.

Maori

I learnt questions that could help me in the class room.

The first question I learnt was Kua marama which means ( do you under stand, the second question was Kua mutu which means (finished finished?)

I will practis these questions so I could use them.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greetings.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata whaenua (local inhabitants). The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place. 

The Maunga (mountain), awa (river) and the (iwi) Tribe are generally used. Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku tipuna (ancestral place) and where you live is importent for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitors that is being welcomed. It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the two groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visitwill ensure a long lasting relationship and connections.

 

About Me 2021

Greetings

My name is Mahdi. I am from Afghanistan. I am in LS1 at Panmure Bridge School. I enjoy playing Badminton and digital games like Minecraft and Roblox.

 

Moari places

Today we translated Maori places in the North island into English.

First I matched the English places into Maori places I knew. For example Rotorua means second lake.

Then I used Google to figure out the places I don't know.

Kapa Haka Performance

Today there was a Moari performance in the hall. The Kapa Haka group performed an entrance ceremony.

First the Kapa Haka group introduced what a poi is used for and how it helps with wrist movements. They also introduced their training tools and how it is used, The training tools help the Moari warriors train with their movements with the weapons.

Secondly the Kapa Haka group performed a haka and then Panmure Bridge school responded with a haka back.

Lastly each class went out to play a Maori Game. Our game was called Maui and Mato. How to play this game is get a Reiko and stand in a circle. If they Maui then you go left, if they say Mato then you go right

I liked the performance the kapa haka group did, especially the singing. I also like the game Maui and Mato.

Auckland volcanoes

This week we did a task called Auckland volcanoes

Some of the names of the volcanoes were Maungawhau and Maungakiekie. Which means Mt Eden and One Tree Hill.

Then we did a weather activity where we looked up the weather using the Maori dictionary. For example he kapua means cloudy and he paki means sunny.

I got all of the volcanoes correct and I will like to do this task again.

Te Rau Maori

This week for Maori we translated Maori names into English.

First we translated the Maori that we already knew into English. Then we used the Maori dictionary to translate the Maori names that we didn't know into English.

Te Reo Maori

This week for Te Reo Maori we learnt about body parts.

First we rearranged the list of of body parts to match the English version then we highlighted the list of body parts that we new in maori blue and the ones we didn't know black. 

Our first session of Te Reo Maori was good because I learnt new some words in Maori.
