xylophone

This activity was about making xylophone.

To make a home made xylophone you will need to fill 4 cups of water with different amounts. After you have get 4 pieces of paper and roll them into a tube and use tape to hold it. Lastly get a pencil and hit the glass and tube with it. The way it works is when you hit the cups of water it will cause vibrations the more water the less vibrations which makes a lower pitch.

I thought making a home made xylophone was fun.

Haiku

Today's activity was about writing a Haiku.

A Haiku is a short poem is usually around 3 sentences long. The first sentence of the poem had to be 5 syllables. A syllable is how many sounds a word makes for example summer has two syllables, summ and er. The second sentence had to be 7 syllables long. The third sentence had to be 5 syllables long.

I found this activity a little difficult because I don't know much about Haiku.

Which One Doesn't Belong?

Today's second activity was about figuring out which image doesn't belong.

First I watched a video to figure out what to do. There were boxes were we put our answer about which one doesn't belong and the reason why it doesn't belong. Some images were about emojis, cards, clocks and more. At the end there was a challenge the challenge was creating our own which one doesn't belong. My which one doesn't belong was about Nerf guns.

I always have fun doing activity's for the Summer Learning Journey.

Song Chorus

Today's first teaser was about finding a image.

The image had to connect to a lyrics. The lyrics had to be on the image so people know what lyrics it is. The l image I chose was three Rugby players holding one against their chest's. The lyrics I chose was “We Will Rise” By Mangere College.

I always have fun doing the Summer Learning Journey.

Summer Learning Journey

This week I have completed a activity for the Summer Learning Journey.

This activity was about commenting on someones blog. I have commented on Mayshars blog. The blog post that I have commented on was a chart about how many blog post they have completed each month. I have asked Mayshar how many blog posts she has completed in a year because the chart only shows how many blog posts she has completed on May, June, July, August, September and November.

Here is a link to Mayshars blog. Link.

I always have fun completing activity's for the Summer Learning Journey.

Summer Learning Journey

I completed the second activity for the Summer Learning Journey.

This week's activity was about Recording a video. The video was about a scavenger hunt for materials to build a catapult.

We looked for the materials in LS1. One person had to be the camera man and record every one in there group looking for materials.

If someone found an object that was on the material list they have to show it infront of the camera.

I thought that this activity was fun.

Inquiry | Presentation

We have presented our presentation for our emergency shelter so that we could get the contract.

First we introduced our company to our clients.

After introducing our company we explained why our shelter is the best. We also explained why we chose the materials for our shelter and why we chose the shape.

Lastly we were given our feedback from the clients of our presentation.

Our feedback was about how we did not explain about our poles that anchor our shelter into the ground. The second piece of feedback was about how we did not show our cardboard model. Our last piece of feedback was about our group not explaining how the Tsunami will slide over our shelter without tipping over our shelter. Next time I will try to give more details about our shelter so people can get a better understanding.

Comprehension Strategies

Comprehension strategies can help people learn or understand texts.

Predicting is used at the beginning of the story so people can guess what the story is about predicting also brings out prior knowledge.

Prior knowledge is used during a story to make connections.

Summarising is used to give a statement using the main points of the text to give as much information as possible.

There are many more Strategies people can use. For example you can use visualising during the story to find information that is not stated

Math Quizzes and Challenges

This week we recorded our results from the quiz's that our partner made.

They were two quizzes a 20 question quiz and a 15 question quiz. The first quiz was based on Addition, Subtraction and fact family's. I got 9 out of 20 answers correct.

The second quiz was based on fractions, time, money, statistics and geometry (shapes). For this quiz I got 8 out 15.

I think I can do better next time I do this quiz.

Filming

My writing groups started to film using Fotu's Narrative, story board, screen play.

First the actors practised their lines using the screen play then we used the story board to see we're the actors we're going to act.

Once the actors memorised their lines we started filming.

When the film was complete we used WeVideo to edit the film and Freesound.org to add sound affects.

I enjoyed filming but I found some scenes hard

SLJ

We completed the Summer Learning Journey teaser. Witch was about recolouring art works.

Moari places

Today we translated Maori places in the North island into English.

Then I used Google to figure out the places I don't know.

Writing | Commanding Conversation

Commanding Conversation is a can do for writing.

I wrote two conversations on an image of three kids and two girls on motercycles.

My first conversation was about three kids playing a game of tag. My second conversation was about two girls complimenting each others moter cycles.

I think Commanding Conversations is a great way to improve use of punctuation.

LI- To write descriptive conversations

Touch Rugby

We practised passing and throwing again.

First we practised passing and throwing to get ready for a game of touch.

Next we played a game of touch. There were three teams one team relaxed while the other teams versed. Once the game finished one team swapped with the team relaxing. We kept on repeating this.

I learnt many useful skills in touch during the past few weeks.

Noval Study

The Witches is a fictional book created by the author Roald Dahl. This book is about a boy and his grandma trying to get rid of witches to try to stop children from dispersing.

Chapter 20 is about the witches standing on tables and chairs going crazy because Luke poured a bottle Formula 86 Mouse Maker into their soup. After a few seconds all of the witches turn into mice.

Chapter 21 is about Luke wondering what happened to Bruno. Luke also has a question it was how long do mice live for. It turns out Luke's grandma has done research normal mice live for 3 years but people mice live for 9 years.

The last chapter is about Luke asking his grandma what what will happen now that they have destroyed the Grand High Witch. Luke's grandma says their is always a backup Grand High Witch ready to take the others place if something were to happen.

I enjoyed reading this book and I think its a great kids book.
