Captain James Cook is known as a British explorer, navigator born in November 1728 Died 14th February 1779.

Captain James the cause of captain James Cook was because some natives from Hawaii stabbed Captain James Cook.

Captain James Cook first voyage was a expedition to the south Pacific Ocean. Aboard the HMS Endeavour. 

Captain James Cook and his crews travels have a huge impact on the world. If he did not travel and map New Zealand down, everyone except the Polynesians wouldn't know about the country.

Fact Family| Maths

A fact family is all the knowledge that is unlocked within that fact. It is common to think that timetables are hard to remember. The finger trick is an easy way of remembering the timetables. A fact family example is:
9 x 1 = 9
1 x 9 = 9
9 ÷ 1 = 9
1 ÷ 9 = 9

Direct and Reported Speech|writing

Direct speech is exactly what someone has said. Reported speech is telling what someone else has said.

Direct speech uses speech marks.

Reported speech is what someone else has said.

If someone understands the differences between direct and reported speech they will know if someone is talking or if someone is telling what someone else has said.

Identifying Patterns

Patterns are repeated things and timetables are multiplying numbers to get an answer.

All of the timetables have patterns which are shown on the DLO.

Patterns are repeated, which means it should always lead back to where it started.

Patterns can help people with remembering the timetables in speed.

Prior knowledge

Prior knowledge is using someone's current knowledge before researching it.

The author's prior knowledge is that the lali drum ranges from 60.9 cm to 182.88 cm. After using the prior knowledge, researching about it is the next step.

The author's new knowledge is that the lali is cut from a solid which looks like a short canoe cut off at each end.

Prior knowledge is a reading strategy that could help people learn quicker.

The First Waka

Originally there were no people in New Zealand. The first people to settle in New Zealand come in a series of waka.

The fist ten waka were named kurahaupo, Takitimu, Mataatua, Taniui, Te Arawa, Aotea, Tokomaru, Horouta, Uruao, Arai-te-uru.

Most of the waka visited the North island. Some of the places were Rotorua, Tamaki River and Turanganui.

The ten waka came to New Zealand to discover new land for people to live.

Tainui	Whangaparaoa,  Tauranga,  tamaki River,  Te Haukapua, Whangaparaoa, Manukau Harbour,  Whaingaroa, Te Ahurei, Mokau,		The Tainu waka   stopped at many different Pasific Islands, and then it eventually stopped in  New Zealand.
Te Arawa	Rotorua  Tongariro	The Te Arawa waka came from Hawaiki	Te Arawa was one of the greatest voyaging waka.
Aotea	Kaipara Harbour Hawaiki -iti (Aotea Harbour)	The user of the Aotea waka stopped at Rangitahua.	Aotea was a double canoe that was built by Toto
Tokomaru	Tongaporutu River
Horouta	Turanganui	The Horouta waka travelled to Ohiwa in the Bay of Plenty. It also landed in Muriwai.
Uruao	Whakatu Kaikoura Horomaka
Ārai-te-uru	Moeraki Shag Point	The waka stopped at Hokianga Harbour.

Place Value

Today for maths we did an activity called place value. For this activity we had to add and subtract if you add it will go to the left but if you subtract it will go to the right.
