Inferring

Inferring

Inferring is a type reading strategy were people use prior knowledge and clues to figure something out that is hidden or not shown on the page.

For example someone can use their prior knowledge and figure out that chameleon is hunting because they might know that chameleons shoot their tongue to catch their prey.

Inferring is a good strategy when it come to guessing what is happening in a image.

Maths | Volume and Capacity

Our standard form of measuring capacity are litres and millilitres. Volume means how much space an object has and capacity is how much liquid an object can fit.

Estimating is taking a guess of the amount of something. When estimating volume look at the object and try guess the height, width and the length after that multiply by a 1000. To measure capacity of something use millilitres of litres.

Geometric Art

For art we are making geometric art using masking technique. Geometric means simple shapes and curves and masking means to cover or hide something.

First we practised of sectioning digitally so we can get a felling of what it is going to be like.

Then we moved on to our real copy. First we covered the frame with masking tape. Then we started to section of big than section of smaller piece's with masking tape.

Next we coloured our art with pastel we moved a pastel in one direction to get a good look.

I really enjoyed doing this activity and I think my art looks good.

Reading | Predictions

This week made predictions about a book called Happy New Year. Predicting is taking a guess about what will happen using clues.

One of the predictions made was i predict that the family would make a fire. I was incorrect the island that they were on had a fire ban policy.

Another prediction of mine was that the family would go explore the island That was also incorrect the family were swimming at the beach.

Predicting helped me understand the book more.

Light and Sound Vocabulary

Light is a energy that make things visible. Sound are waves that can be heard.

First we had to match words from a list with the definitions. We could use a dictionary to help us.

Next we did the Draw, Act, Animate, Find.

My group did echo for draw we drew a face and a wall and the face had a speech bubble that said hello we also drew the sound waves hitting the wall and bouncing back.

Properties of Light

Light makes things more visible to the human eye.

One property of light is: light can't be seen through opaque objects. This is proven because when the flashlight was covered by an opaque object the light didn't go through the opaque object.

Another property of light is that light can be reflected. This is proven because when the light shined towards the mirror the light bounced of the mirror.

Light can create a rainbow because the prism separates all of the light's colours. This is proven because when the flashlight shined on the prism it created a rainbow.

There are many more property's property of light check this Google Document for more information.

Weight | Measuring

Weight is how heavy an object is. Our standard forms of weight are grams (g), kilograms (kg) and tonnes (t). Most people use a scale or a balance scale to measure the weight of something.

Estimating is when people take a guess using their prior knowledge.

Converting is changing a form of something. To convert grams to kilograms people divide by one thousand and then divide one more thousand to convert to tonnes.

Plurals

Plurals are more than one thing. Most plurals have rules to them.

One of the rules are that if a noun ends with a 'y' but has a vowel (a,e,i,o,u) before the 'y' then people often use an 's' for example boy boys.

Another rule is that if a noun ends with an 'o' people often use 'es'. For example: mosquito, mosquitoes. There are some exceptions to this rule. For example: photo, photos.

Plurals have many more rules and exceptions to them.
